L-1 EARLY SPRING APPLICATION (March -April)
A complete balanced, granular fertilizer for early spring green-up. Spot treatment of winter germinating weeds, such as chickweed and henbit. A pre-emergent weed control for crabgrass and difficult to control summer annuals.
L-2 LATE SPRING/EARLY SUMMER (May- June)
Pre-emergent for crabgrass and for broadleaf weed control of dandelions, clover, plantain and similar weeds. A balanced, slow released fertilizer to reduce the potential for lawn diseases and the need for frequent mowing.
L-3 SUMMER APPLICATION (June – August)
Specially formulated, High K (Potash) fertilizer for enhanced durability, drought, insect and disease tolerance. Spot treatment for difficult to control summer weeds like spurge, oxalis or purslane.

OPTIONS FOR MID-SUMMER INSECT AND DISEASE PROBLEMS

L-3.1 SEASONAL GRUB PREVENTER (June)
Enhanced control against damage from white grubs from the time of application, throughout the growing season. May be applied concurrently with late spring or summer application.
L-3.2 SURFACE INSECTS (June – August)
Surface insects can do substantial damage to a lawn when conditions favor their needs, such as when climatic conditions are at extremes or the turf is stressed. Some of the main surface insects are chinch bugs, sod webworm, cutworms and ants.
L-3.3 DYLOX INSECTICIDE (August – September)
Quick knock down of active grubs damaging turf.
L-3.4 FLEA & TICK CONTROL (June – September)
Control of ticks and difficult to control fleas for the protection of pets and their families. Currently, Maryland ranks in the top five states in the country for the number of reported cases of Lyme disease. Recommended controls should be applied monthly.
L-3.5 LAWN DISEASE CONTROL (June – August)
Control of turf damaging diseases, like brown patch and dollar spot. Treatments are based on environmental climatic conditions.
L-4 LIME APPLICATION (January – December)
Pelletized, low dust dolomitic lime to correct acid soils and provide a better fertility response. This application may be made any time throughout the year, but not at the same time as fertilizer.
L-5 EARLY FALL APPLICATION (September – October)
A broadleaf weed control for fall emerging broadleaf weeds. A complete balanced fertilizer. Professional lawn evaluation to determine seeding needs for fall.
L-6 FALL APPLICATION (November – December)
A granular fertilizer to sustain fall green-up and aid in the beneficial root development throughout the winter months.
L-8 SOIL TESTING
The Maryland Department of Agriculture requires all lawns under a fertilization program to be tested every three years. The soil test determines nutrient needs and nutrient surplus applications.
S-6 CORE AERATION (September – December)
A mechanical process, which alleviates compaction, improves turf rooting, helps control thatch and improves movement of air and water into the soil. We recommend that grass seed be applied at this time to take advantage of the disturbed soil.
S-9 SPOT SEEDING (March – November)
A process for repairing small areas of lawn. A bagged, weed free topsoil and seed mix is applied as a top dressing. Best used for low spots, damaged areas and bare spots. Can be done throughout the season.
S-11 SLICE SEEDING (September – October)
A mechanical process that actually plants new seed into the soil without stripping the sod or tilling the yard.  Slice seeding provides seed-to-soil contact and results in a much better germination and growth rate than the seed being broadcast or spread by hand.
